Warren E. Whitney
Warren E. Whitney, 45, of Edinboro, died on Wednesday, November 19, 2025 after a long battle with cancer due to Lynch Syndrome. He was born in Jamestown, NY on January 1, 1980 to Ben Whitney and Brenda Waite Campbell.
Warren built his life around the outdoors and the people he loved. He attended Edinboro University and spent 17 years as an assistant store manager at Gander Mountain, a role that matched his instinct for the woods, water, and open air. He was a member of North Star Lodge 241 Pennsylvania Masons.
He was a devoted husband and father whose center was always with his family. He read to his children every night, especially Harry Potter, and taught them what he loved: geological facts, mushroom foraging, harvesting and canning from the family garden, tractor rides around the yard, and Atlanta Braves baseball. His family came first, and he spent every moment he could with them. He passed down his own passions in the same steady way: hunting at first light, fishing whenever he could, yearly trips to state and national parks, tending his bees, and caring for the greenhouse he built for his wife upon their Windy Hill. The outdoors was where he felt most himself, and he shared that fully with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved paternal grandfather, Oliver Whitney; his paternal grandmother, Shirley Whitney; his maternal grandparents, Ralph and Margaret Blackman Waite; his aunt, Marylou Waite; and his paternal step-grandmother, Florence Whitney.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Cheyenne Whitney; his children, Jordyn, Hudson, and Rand Whitney; his sisters, Pamela Holmstrom (Mark) and Nicole Smith (Tom); his brothers, Charles Whitney, Aaron Whitney (Jen Passingham), Brian Scott Campbell (Dawn), and Michael Campbell (Tracy); his stepfather, Larry Campbell; his stepmother, Teri Whitney; his entire in-law family; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Burial will be private.
In keeping with Warren's connection to the natural world, consider planting a tree, supporting a wildlife refuge, taking a hike, or picking up litter in his memory.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Russell C. Schmidt and Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., Erie, 16504.
