Waymon Grant Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 11, 2022.
Waymon Grant was born May 4, 1938, to the union of Thomas and Ardelia (Freelon) Grant in Hallettsville, TX. The family later moved to Victoria, TX, where he graduated from F.W. Gross High School.
Waymon was baptized into Christ at an early age (21) at Coliseum Park Church of Christ in San Antonio, TX (where his family then lived), in October 1959, under the late C.F. Richardson. He enlisted in the United States Air Force the following year, where he served for 20 years and 3 months. During his time in the service, he traveled to 25 different countries. Some of his wonderful experiences were walking out on the ice cap, living in 24 hours of total darkness, and 24 hours of total light. He also visited Paris, France, and saw the great wonders of the city.
He enjoyed being able to travel the world with his first wife, Bessie H. Grant, who is survived by their daughter, Andrea, and son, William (Winky).
Later he married Patsy Travenia with whom he celebrated 41 years of marriage. After retiring from the military, he and Patsy sailed upon God's great ocean on numerous cruises across this country.
Some of his other hobbies included dominoes and other games, woodshop, traveling, fellowshipping with church family, fishing, and yard work.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Ardelia Grant; brother, Alton (Sunny) Grant; half sister, Alice Hargrove; and half-brother, Elmo Grant.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Patsy Grant; sister, Lovie Ceaser; daughters, Lisa Travenia, Andrea Taylor (Derrick), and Cheryl Travenia (former spouse, Charles Edwards, III); and son, William Winky Grant; grandchildren, Brian (BJ) Robinson, Joshua Taylor (Kara), Courtney Washington, Corey Washington, Ariana Edwards, Cidney Washington, Mykal Taylor, Amaya Edwards, and Alaina Edwards; nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends and "spiritually adopted" children and family at East Side and throughout the brotherhood of all ages.
Waymon stated with pride, "The greatest thing about me is that I have been a Christian for (63) years. I have been truly blessed." He loved serving the Lord, which was evident in the various roles in which he served, such as the following: an elder at the East Side Church of Christ for over 30 years, lead teacher in the Men's New Convert's Class, bus driver to various church events, such as the National Youth Conference, was instrumental in the initial process of moving forward in trying to find land on which East Side could build, song leader, a staple and an original member of East Side's Hour of Truth Chorus, of which he remained a member until his health failed. What a tremendous example of strength he was.
