Dear Bennett Family,
I would like to send to you my deepest, heart felt condolences. May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief.
Wayne will be sadly missed here at the shipyard.
I attended the funeral service yesterday and I just have to say that I have never seen a celebration of a life so eloquently accomplished. It was truely a wonderful service.
Having a musical background, I especially appreciated hearing the poem and songs that Wayne wrote. It was part of Wayne I wish I had known.
Once again, my deepest sympathy to all.
Sincerely,
Kim

I didn't know Wayne personally but I do know how much his love of God and music touched my life. He took a gift God gave him and he blessed so many people with it, who's to know how many individuals were led to Jesus and a new life because of his witness. He also loved his family immensely and this was very obvious to anyone who was in his presence. To Dana and Patty, Mrs. Bennett (Wayne's mother), and his wife and children, I offer you my deepest sympathy, you remain in my thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time. God is nearby and will see you through this, and someday at a much happier time, you will all be reunited. If you need anything let us know.

Dear Holly, John, Joshua, Amanda, and Amberle,
Please accept our deepest condolences for your loss. After attending Wayne's service today, I regret not taking the opportunity to know Wayne and his family better, rather than just casual acquaintances at a Special Olympics event. However, I truly feel honored and thankful that I did have the opportunity today to learn more about him through the eyes of his friends and family. Never have I heard the words, "mentor," and, "friend," used together so often in a sentence. I would not have known that this casual guy in a NASCAR jacket wrote poetry and music, taught bible class, and educated young professionals. I would not have known the love and caring Wayne felt for his family, his church, and the many he helped and inspired. Today, thanks to you, I now know.
Holly, Josh, John, Amanda, and Amberle, thank you for sharing such an important day with us. Thank you all for allowing us an opportunity to know more about Wayne. God, thank you for blessing us with this warm, wonderful and inspiring family.
Peace be with you.
Warmly,

When I was six years old someone moved in across the street. There was this little boy standing on the other side of the road but neither one of us could cross the street without our mother’s permission. I ran in my house and asked; mom said OK but be careful! I crossed over and met my Best Friend, Wayne.
Now after 53 years my Best Friend has received permission to cross over another street in life and I must wait for my Heavenly Father to give me permission to join Jesus and my Best Friend.
See you soon Brother!
Love,
Brian

To the Bennett Family,
I have known Wayne for many years working with him at the Shipyard. He was truly a wonderful man and blessed to consider him a friend. Wayne was always there with that wonderful smile no matter what was going on that day and was always there for good conversation and laughter as well as being a great co-worker. He was respected and loved by all he touched.
My deepest sympathy to your family as he offered so much to so many.

Holly and family, My deepest sypathy goes out to you. I had the honor to have Wayne as my boss and friend since 1981. I truly got to know him better as a friend, mentor and fellow sports/NASCAR nut the 2nd time around after he got my old job back for me. The few times we shared NHIS pre-race will be sorely missed. We have all lost an exceptional friend. May God Bless You and your family and guide you through this trying time.

Amanda, I know that it has been difficult to keep in touch since graduation, but I want you to know that I believe with all my heart and soul that you are such a strong Christian young lady who will continue to lean on God through this and be an example for your younger sister. Hold true to the beautiful thought that your father now walks with Our Father. Please don't hesitate to call. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family and I send my love.

To the Bennett family, Wayne was my Mentor, Boss and Friend. His ability to solve problems and work for all who supported the shipyard was an asset to the shipyard and a direct reflection of his moral character. Wayne had a special ability to separate his private life from his shipyard life. Our conversations were geared towards my selection of Christmas music in my holiday display. He felt this year it wasn't loud enough. I can guarantee next year the Trans Siberian Orchestra will bellow out to the stars. Thanks for your support and advice as it will be sorely missed. Our deepest sympathy to Wayne's family.

To the Bennett family:
Wayne and I both starting working at the Shipyard back in 1967. We butted heads for a few years, but then became very good friends. I retired from the Shipyard back in 1996, and did not get to see Wayne much after that, except for an occasional contact at area stores.
I will miss those chance contacts. My prayers and deepest sympathy are extended to Wayne's family.

Wayne was the leader that kept us grounded, shared his knowledge and maintained his sence of humor. He will be deeply missed by all of us in the code. To the entire Bennett family,
Our thoughts and prayers are with Holly and the entire Bennett family.
Wayne had an incredible impact in this community. Dana and Wayne were admired by the younger generations at BEFC. Many of us wish we could be as talented musically and on the softball field as those brothers. More importantly, I wanted to share their enthusiasm for Christ.
Candlelight services at Walnut Grove Baptist will never be the same, but I trust we will keep his memory fresh every year!

Dear Holly and Children,
I had the privilege of working for your husband/father for many years. He was not only my supervisor but a friend that I could easily talk to. We both shared a spiritual bond which gave us a common understanding about many things. This year I went through a personal medical trial and Wayne was very supportive and helpful during that time. I too will miss him. May the Lord grant you special grace over the days ahead.

Dear Bennett family,
Even though it has been many years since I have moved away from the Barrington Church, I have thought of the families there often. My parents, the Higgins', have tried to keep me updated on how everyone is and are the ones who told me of Wayne's homeward journey. Although it saddens us to see him go, we must rejoice in knowing that Wayne's journey is complete and he is hearing "well done, good and faithful servant". Know our prayers are with you all and may God comfort you during this time as only He can.

To Holly and all the family, Wayne was a special guy. I remember him singing with the Crossroads at Nute Ridge Bible Chapel many years ago. He was a testimony to the Lord at the shipyard. I saw both of you last Monday at Penny's, but as you were shopping I didn't come over and say hi. Now I wish I had. Please know that we at Nute Chapel will have you all in our prayers. Dear Bennett Family,
I wish to express my deepest condolences for your loss. I got to know Wayne about 5 years ago when he would come over to the Superintendent's morning meetings in the Machine Shop at the shipyard. At first Wayne never said too much but you could tell that he was always on the ball and ready to answer any questions about training. Once I really got to know Wayne, I realized that he was a super person and I truly cherished his friendship. Just before Christmas I was fortunate to be able to talk to him for about 15 minutes before a class I had in the training facility. I asked him about his knee and we chatted about our families. I always made sure that I got a smile out of him whenever we met because I always kidded him that we both had a "stern" look about us according to other people. Wayne was always quick to help me whenever I called him about any problem. I always went to Wayne first because I knew that he would fix the problem the first time or offer me advice on how to fix it myself. I will think of him often and remember the positive impact that he had on other people and me.

My sincerest condolences to Mrs. Bennett and the entire Bennett family. I started working with Wayne over 14 years ago, and became truly appreciative of the support, knowledge, and integrity that he brought to the job. It was obvious that he was very dedicated to his family, and knew how to separate the job from his personal life. I will sorely miss Wayne's presence and counsel, and his observations on all things sports and NASCAR related. It will be a challenge for all of us at PNS to recover from this loss. Rest in Peace, my friend.
