Wayne T. "Beaver" Elder, age 84, of York, passed away on February 12, 2025 at WellSpan York Hospital. He was the husband of the late Ruth Deardorff Elder.
Beaver was born in Hanover, PA on December 26, 1940 and was the son of the late Laverne and Naomi (Keller) Elder. He was an artist who loved to draw and paint and enjoyed woodcarving, hunting, and fishing. Beaver also expressed his artistic talents in his trade as a highly skilled mason. His stonework has endured the test of time and can be seen as a monument to his hard work all over the area. Most visibly at the New Era Restaurant, formerly O'Brien's, on Route 30. Beaver was also a member of Lars United Methodist Church, the McSherrystown Moose, Hanover Republican Club, and a life member of the McSherrystown Fish & Game Association.
Beaver is survived by his sons Richard Scott Elder and wife Cindy and Wayne David Elder; his grandchildren Jeremy Michael Elder, Bishop Elder, and Logan Deatrick; his great-grandchildren Hendricks Hayden Elder, Rowan Orion Elder, Walker James Deatrick, and Beau Luke Elder. He is also survived by his brothers Charles Elder and wife Linda and Donald Elder and wife Randi; and numerous nieces and nephews. Beaver was preceded in death by his siblings Kenneth Elder, Terry Elder, and Betty Houser.
A Memorial Service in celebration of Beaver's life will be held on Friday, February 21, 2025 at 2:00PM at Murphy-Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 501 Ridge Ave., McSherrystown, PA 17344. Interment will be private. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 1:00PM – 2:00PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Beaver's memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 22116.
