Wayne Edward Hagar, lovingly known as Wayne to his friends and family, was a beacon of light and life in the community of Edmond, Oklahoma. He embarked on his grand journey of life on August 26, 1933, in the small town of Carney, Oklahoma, and on December 8, 2024, he peacefully concluded his chapter on Earth due to natural causes, surrounded by the love of his family in Edmond, Oklahoma.
Wayne's story is one of dedication, joy, and immense love. A graduate of Jones High School, he furthered his education at the University of Oklahoma extension in Oklahoma City and Texas A&I in Kingsville, TX. His professional life was as diverse as it was impactful, having worked for OG&E, then was a co-owner of Ebonite Pro Shop during the bowling boom in the 1960's, served as a Firefighter with the Oklahoma City Fire Department, became the Director of Maintenance for the Ada Public School System, and then Director of Properties for the State of Oklahoma. His service to the nation was marked by a two-year enlistment in the United States Navy, a period of his life he held in high regard.
Wayne's family was the cornerstone of his existence. He shared a loving marriage of 67 years with his wife, Joan Hagar, and together they raised a beautiful family. He is survived by his wife, Joan, son, Brent Hagar (and wife Carla), son, Brad Hagar, daughter, Brenda Cannon (and husband Randy), grandchildren Karis Maher, Stephanie Harris, Torie Jolliff, Moriah Weckhorst (Brent), Nicole Hagar Cooper (Brad), Cody Meeker and Garrett Cannon (Brenda), and great-grandchildren, Isabella Hagar (Nicole), Jonas Maher (Karis), Haley Harris (Stephanie), and Josiah Jolliff (Torie). Each of them carried a spark of Wayne's spirit and wisdom, a legacy that will continue to shine brightly through generations. He valued the relationship he maintained with his nephew Dallas Judkins, and his nieces, Patty Keas and Sherri Thomas.
A man of many interests, Wayne was a stalwart figure in the bowling community, earning his place in the Oklahoma City and the State of Oklahoma Bowling Hall of Fame. His passion for horse racing was another facet of his multifaceted life, often found at Thunder Roadhouse Cafe on Fridays, where he enjoyed the camaraderie of friends and the thrill of the bet. Wayne's love for reading was insatiable, with fiction novels by Louis L'Amour, Tom Clancy, John Grisham, Vince Flynn, Brad Thor, Clive Cussler, W.E.B. Griffin, and Michael Connelly being some of his favorites.
Wayne and Joan were active members of Southern Hills Christian Church under the stewardship of Dr. Gary Byrkit, where they found a community of faith and friendship that enriched their lives for decades. The church was a testament to Wayne's belief in service, fellowship, and the importance of nurturing one's spiritual path.
To describe Wayne is to speak of intelligence, spirit, and generosity. He was a man who not only met challenges head-on but also saw them as opportunities for growth and learning. His ability to inspire those around him was uncanny, and his presence was a source of stability and encouragement.
Today, as we reflect on Wayne's life, we are reminded that every day is a gift and that the most ordinary moments can be transformed into extraordinary memories when shared with someone like Wayne. He taught us that life's richness doesn't come from what we have but from who we are and what we give to others.
Wayne's life was a testament to the power of positivity, the strength of family, and the joy of living a life true to one's passions and beliefs. As we say farewell to this remarkable man, let us carry forward the torch of his legacy, illuminating our paths with the same warmth and brilliance that he shone upon us all. Wayne Edward Hagar will be dearly missed, but the impact of his journey will continue to motivate and inspire for years to come. Let us celebrate the life of a man who was truly alive in every sense of the word and who encouraged us all to live with passion, love generously, and make every moment count.
