Wayne Hurlbut

Wayne H. Hurlbut passed away at his home in Thatcher, Utah November 4, 2025. He received his last wish which was to leave the hospital and be at home.

Born on August 08, 1940, in St. Helens, Oregon to parents Arthur Hurlbut & Marie Cypher.

His parents were from New York and when he was five his father moved the family back to Croton, New York. He graduated from Hendrick Hudson High School in Montrose, NY. As a young boy he loved to hunt, trap, fish and play baseball with his father and friends. He played on his high school baseball team and for a time was signed to the Yankee farm team.

He served as a Volunteer Fireman for many years as a member of Cortlandt Engine Company in Montrose. He was employed as an officer with the Westchester County Parkway Police.

He worked as a pipefitter and worked on many large building projects, coal fired and nuclear powerhouses all over the United States. And he made many friends wherever he traveled, Wayne never met a stranger.

He was a proud member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters UA, Local Union 296 in Meridian, ID. It is a brotherhood, and he loved his Union Brothers. He was honored for his excellent work at a dinner and given his 50-year pin.

After he retired from the UA, he opened his own business, "Old West Antler Art." He was very creative and his chandeliers, lamps & tables were sold all over the country.

He was a proud member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was a past president and a past state trustee. He was inducted into the Utah State Hall of Fame & a member of the Dog Chain Club. He had the honor of being named Honorary Utah State Auxiliary Father. He was awarded Aerie Eagle of The Year & the Joint Past President's Humanitarian Award for outstanding dedication to the many facets of Eagledom.

He was a lifetime member of the Wesbrook Elks where he served as trustee for (7) years.

He is survived by his loving wife Terri, son Jacob, brother Ray Hurlbut (Reginia) of South Carolina, niece Kim Eden of Georgia. In-laws Brett and Sherrie Smith, Claire Dowdy, Joan and Howard Gafford of Texas, and many beloved nephews and nieces.

Wayne was loved and he will be missed dearly by his family and friends.

Services at Myers Mortuary 845 Washington Blvd, Ogden Utah on Friday, December 12 at 11:00 am. with a viewing prior at 9:45 to 10:45 am. A viewing is scheduled Thursday, December 11 from 5–7 p.m. at Myers.
