On March 3,1946 Wayne Mark Jorgensen was born to Gayle Hacking Jorgensen and William Mark Jorgensen. He was raised in Pleasant Grove with his siblings Lynn, Gloria, and Gordon. His family loved to hunt together and spent much time in the Oquirrh mountains.
Growing up, Wayne loved sports and was a state heavyweight wrestling champion at Pleasant Grove High School. He was also a lineman on the football team and was recruited by Lavell Edwards to play for BYU. He graduated as a Viking in May 1964 and attended college at Brigham Young University beginning that fall.
It was while attending BYU that he reconnected with a former Pleasant Grove High School classmate, Joyce Eva Wright. They began dating and were married in the Salt Lake Temple on September 15, 1965. Three beautiful daughters joined their family over the years – Janae, Gina, and Jami. Wayne and Joyce celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary just a few months before Joyce passed away unexpectedly in December 2023.
As their family grew up, Wayne and Joyce shared their love of nature, camping, and being in the mountains with their daughters. Some of his favorite places to spend time with his family were Yellowstone, the canyons of Mt. Timpanogos, and the Sawtooth Valley. He taught each of his girls to ride motorcycles well and the family spent time camping and riding together regularly while they raised their daughters. BYU football games were also enjoyed together over the last 40+ years.
Wayne worked for the Department of Corrections at the Utah State Prison and was a member of the SWAT team for 7 years. He loved to spend any free time he had outdoors. A few of his favorite things included being in the mountains, cutting wood, gardening, and growing the best tomatoes, blackberries, and raspberries for the grandkids to enjoy. He was also very skilled in woodworking and knife making and all his children and grandchildren have these artifacts showcasing his talents and filled with his love in their homes. He also had a love for photography and captured beautiful nature photographs wherever he went in life.
As a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Wayne served in various callings in the Elder's Quorum, the Young Men's organization, and in Bishopric roles over the years. He also served at the Lindon Cannery for 2 years and in the Provo Temple for nearly 5 years. One calling he particularly loved was his role as the woodcutter and chaperone at Camp Shalom where he could be with his wife and daughters as they attended girls' camp each summer. Service is a word that will always describe Wayne's life – he consistently took his family with him to help at the church welfare farms and at neighbors' homes and many will remember times he was there to help cut down trees, paint, fixed roofs, or help build a fence or lay sod with them. He was generous with his skills and his time when someone was in need.
Wayne left this life on July 27, 2024 at the age of 78 due to kidney failure. He loved his family deeply and engaged in all their lives and will be greatly missed at all our family gatherings until we are reunited.
He was preceded in death by his wife Joyce Eva Wright Jorgensen and his parents William Mark Jorgensen and Gayle Hacking Jorgensen. He is survived by his daughters Janae (Dave) Oveson, Gina (Sidney) Clements, and Jami Jorgensen. He is also survived by all his siblings Lynn (Sherrie) Jorgensen, Gloria (Larry) Beech, and Gordon Jorgensen as well as all his grandchildren and great grandchildren as follows: Alexandria (Jordan) Mackey, Natalia (Isaac) Johnson, Gentri (Michael) Hortman and Aria, Ezra and Zayn, Cassidee (Colton) Garrison and Oaklee, Kinsley, and Blakely, Jayden (Elise) Clements, Landon Clements, and Breyden Jorgensen.
A viewing and family visitation will be held on Friday evening, August 2 from 6 – 7:30 p.m. at Walker Sanderson Funeral Home (646 E. 800 N., Orem).
Wayne's funeral will be held on Saturday, August 3 at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Chapel located at 800 West 1485 North, Orem. There will be a brief viewing and visitation from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. prior to the service.

One of my favorite stories about Wayne is: We were at a youth conference. Wayne had been asked to be a chaperone or maybe a bouncer. At night when the kids were going back to their bunks he was in charge of making sure the boys went one way and the girls went the other. Well he was pretty disappointed when he didn't get to shoot one of the boys with his paintball gun when they crossed the line. But he did manage to get some shots off to decorate the outshouse.

To follow that same character. One time Vicki Jennings was teaching gospel doctrine. As she started the lesson, wanting to start with an object lesson, know Wayne loved to garden, she asked Wayne what he was growing in his garden this year. He replied without even a flinch. "Maraijuana" You just never know. Love Wayne

One last thing. Wayne would show up at our door step with wheat flour, which was great. But my favorite is when he showed up with a knife he had made. I told him it was great, and I would love one. And Guess what I have my own knife that Wayne made, which is very special to me and even more now.

I have so many wonderful memories of Wayne. What a wonderful neighbor. One of my favorite memoris is the day I came home with a case (6) gallons of miss matched paint on my porch. Loved it.

He loved to chop down trees. One day my son in law, Mark was cutting down a branch of my tree, that had died. The next thing we knew is Wayne came with his bigger and better chain saw. Mark came up to my door and said "I have bad news, Wayne just cut down your whole tree. Oh well.

Wayne was my first Captain when I started for Corrections and was a great mentor and friend. We enjoyed some good times at work and also at play. Great man who will be missed!

I met Wayne working for the Dept. of Corrections. He was my captain, I man I always admired, who had a great sense of humor, and always looked out for his subordinates. I hope his family will be comforted during this time.
