Wayne Watson Lewis was born to the late union of Llyod and Mildred Lewis. Wayne was christened into the Catholic faith, by the late Clarence Sr. and Helena Mitchell, where he chose the Christian name of Michael.
He attended St. Augustine High School in New Orleans Louisiana. He later enlisted into the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War in several European countries and Korea. While in the military, he was given the nickname "Sugar Bear" by is Army comrades. Wayne was awarded the Army Commendation medal, good conduct medal, National Defense medal, and Marksman medal. Following his military service, he was employed with the United States Postal Service in Oakland, California.
In 1982, Wayne returned to
Marrero, Louisiana, to help support his family during his father's illness and began his professional career as a certified automobile and motorcycle mechanic.
Wayne is preceded in death by his parents; Llyod and Mildred Lewis, grandparents; Watson and Sedonia Lewis, Walter and Camellia Charles; brothers; Roy and Lloyd Lewis, Sr; aunts Thelma, Alma, and Annie Mae Lewis, Vivan C. Thompson, Iona Petterson, Beatrice Parker, and Wilma Dickerson, uncles; Joe and Mitchell Lewis, Steve Dickerson, Eugene Thompson, cousins and friends.
Wayne leaves to cherish his memories: his son Wayne Michael (Tamika) Lewis, Slidell, Louisiana; sisters; Glenda L. Davis,

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend his Funeral Service at Historic St. James AME Church, 222 N. Roman Street on Thursday, December 18, 2025 at 11:00 am.
