Wayne Thompson, 80, of Bladenboro went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 19, 2023. He was born in Bladen County on April 18, 1943, son of the late Wilbert Anderson Thompson and Iretha Smith Thompson.
Wayne was a wonderful husband, father, and neighbor. He was an active lifelong member of Community Baptist Church in Bladenboro where he served as a Sunday School teacher, Treasurer, and choir member. Affectionately known in the neighborhood as “Mr. T’, he was known for his silly stories, his patience in giving driving lessons, tons of laughter and rides on his golf cart. Wayne enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, beach trips, and talking, especially about politics. He will always be remembered as that friend who sticks closer than a brother and for his shining example as a man of God.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Houston, Ray, and Tony Thompson. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Peggy A. Thompson of the home, son Gary Thompson (Moah) of Grays Creek, daughter Melanie Lynn Thompson of Puerto Rico, sister Jane T. Pait (Stewart) of White Oak, several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, from 1-2 pm at the Community Baptist Church in Bladenboro followed by a funeral service at 2:00 pm. A burial will follow the services in the church cemetery.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the members of the Bladen County EMS and the Bladen County Sheriff’s Deputies who assisted during this difficult time.
