Webster “Buck” Lavon McDermott, age 69, of Athens, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at Turkey Creek Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. Known to family and friends simply as Uncle Buck, he will forever be remembered as everyone’s “Favorite Uncle.” His dedication and loyalty to his family were unmatched, and he was especially adored by the younger generation for his gentle heart, kindness, and playful spirit.
Buck was well known for his outstanding work as a roofer and took great pride in his craft. He spent many years working for Hester Roofing and would often point out the many homes he had worked on while riding through town. Caring for his family and providing for them was always at the center of his life.
Uncle Buck was also famously hilarious, known for telling the most outlandish stories. One favorite memory shared by all the kids was his insistence that his full name was “Webster Lavon Pierre Rodriguez Martinez Cortez Gonzalez McDermott,” which he always said so fast—or changed so often—that no one could ever repeat it back.
When he wasn’t working or taking care of loved ones, Buck enjoyed fishing, turtle hunting, and tending to his garden. He leaves behind a lifetime of laughter, love, and unforgettable memories. Uncle Buck was truly one of a kind—the ultimate “Atomic Dog.”
He is survived by one brother, Kenneth “Bub” (Charlesetta) McDermott; two sisters, Alice Oliver and Carol “Wincie” McDaniel, all of Athens, Tennessee. He also leaves behind a special friend and honorary auntie, Melody “Kool” West of Falkville, Alabama; a special niece, Latoshia (Clent) Gregory of Niota, Tennessee; his favorite nephew, Tracy McDermott of Athens, Tennessee; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whom he loved dearly.
