Saunders-Dwyer Funeral Homes - New BedfordMarilyn Lee (Mansfield) McDermott, 78, of Dartmouth, passed away peacefully on Sunday January 25, 2026 after a very long battle. She was the wife of Marvin McDermott for almost 60 years, and loved him dearly.
Born in Somerville, MA, daughter of Arthur Mansfield Sr and Catherine (Mayo) Mansfield. She lived in the Boston area for most of her life before moving to Dartmouth over 20 years ago.
Marilyn enjoyed tending to her garden as well as her houseplants, cooking and baking. She also enjoyed waking up early to have her coffee while watching the sunrise and listening to the morning birds. Marilyn loved her pets including many cats, dogs, her horse and her bird.
Marilyn had a strong love for Irish Wolfhounds. Over the years, she had three beloved wolfhounds of her own: Finnbar, Samantha and Rosie. Finnbar in particular was her shining star. Showing off his charm at many dog shows.
Marilyn owned and operated Riverview pet grooming in North Andover MA, with her sister Judy before choosing to give it up to raise and love her grandchildren as her own.
Marilyn will be remembered as a caring, loving person with a radiantly contagious smile. Marilyn had so much love for her family and spending time with them. As her family grew she loved having her great-grandchildren around the house.
Survivors include her husband Marvin McDermott; her children Brian McDermott and Kimberly McDermott; her siblings, Judy, Cheryl, Darlene, Midge, and Cathy; her grandchildren, Anthony and his wife Heather, Brian and his fiancée Kelsey, Derek, and Taylor and her partner Kristen; her great-grandchildren, Anthony, Jr, Hudson and Baker; and her loving dog Tommy.
She is predeceased by her daughter Kelly McDermott; her siblings Arthur Jr, Kevin, Nelson and Audrey; and her dog Dannyboy.
Her memorial visitation will be held Saturday February 7, 2026 from 12 Noon to 4 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
