Weldon M. Boyd of Idalou passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at the age of 85. He was born January 10, 1928 in Lubbock County to Charlie and Eula (Donnell) Boyd. Weldon graduated from Lubbock Cooper High School and Texas Tech University where he received his geology degree. He was then drafted by the U.S. Army to serve in the Korean War. After honorable discharge, Weldon accepted a teaching job with Roosevelt ISD, where he taught for two years. On January 22, 1954 he married Peggy Kelso in Acuff. The couple made their home in Idalou, where Weldon worked as a farmer and cattleman. They were members of the Idalou United Methodist Church.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of more than 59 years, Peggy; son, Rick Boyd of Lubbock; daughter, Phyllis Clark of Argyle; and five grandsons, Tanner and Carson Boyd, and Jonathan, Jeremy and Justin Clark. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, R. B. Boyd; one son, Bruce Boyd; and son-in-law, Randy Clark.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 p.m. Monday, April 22, 2013 at Combest Family Funeral Homes in Idalou. Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at the Idalou United Methodist Church with interment to follow at the City of Lubbock Cemetery.
