Wendell William Mousel, known to most as Bill Mousel, was born on July 20, 1937, in McCook, Nebraska to R. Wendell and Velma (Hazen) Mousel. Bill lived a life steeped in dedication, hard work, and a deep-seated love for his family and community. Bill married the love of his life, Shirley Lou Musil on June 16, 1957 and to this union four children were born: Michael Todd, Rebecca Ann, William Troy, and Susan Dianne.

Education was important to Bill; he graduated with the Cambridge High School class of 1955 and earned a bachelor’s degree in agricultural studies from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln in 1959. Bill grew up attending the Denver Stock Show where he showed his beloved Hereford cattle and built a lifelong admiration for the breed and for agriculture. As an adult, Bill was a devoted farmer and rancher who invested countless hours into his land, cultivating not just crops but a continued family commitment to the agricultural traditions of the family farm and animals. His experience extended beyond farming; he also sold real estate and worked for World Savings and Loan while living in Fort Collins, Colorado and Kansas City, Missouri. Bill and Shirley returned to Cambridge in 2007 to enjoy family and retirement.

Among those who knew him, Bill was recognized not only as a storyteller who never knew a stranger but also as a man passionate about his interests. He loved nothing more than talking about cows and taking drives to view them in the scenic pastures of Nebraska. He could often be found enjoying coffee with the "guys" at Gas N Shop, where friendships were nurtured over shared stories and laughter.

Family was paramount to Bill; he was a regular presence at the activities of his children and grandchildren. His unwavering support and enthusiasm for their endeavors was not overlooked, creating cherished memories that will be carried forward by his loved ones.

In addition to his agricultural pursuits, Bill had many hobbies that brought him joy. He was fond of Cheetos and a cold Diet Coke. He enjoyed woodworking and delighted in playing the game Left Right Center. His beloved cat, Mittens, was a cherished companion that added to an already rich and fulfilling life. Bill was also a lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Cambridge as well as the local Masonic Lodge, recently receiving recognition of 65 years of membership.

Bill was surrounded by family when he passed away at the age of 88 on November 18, 2025 at Tri Valley Health System in Cambridge, Nebraska. His family would like to extend their heart-filled thanks to the many caretakers and friends that made Bill’s last few years as comfortable as possible.

He was preceded in death by his parents, R. Wendell and Velma Mousel; wife, Shirley Mousel; and brother, Ron Mousel.

Survivors include his children: Michael Todd Mousel of Cambridge, Rebecca Ann Mousel of Minden, Nebraska, William Troy Mousel of Thornton, Colorado, and Susan Dianne (Tony) Bridge of Little Elm, Texas; grandchildren: Madison (Matt) Dack, Mason (Bailee Springer) Mousel, Kortney (fiancé, Colton Timmons) Mousel, Trey (Sydney) Mousel, Riley Bridge, Gavin Mousel, and Alex Bridge; and great-grandchildren, Kynlea Dack, Cora Mousel, and Casen Mousel. Bill Mousel’s legacy of kindness, dedication, and love will continue to resonate through the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be dearly missed.

Visitation will be held on Monday afternoon, November 24, 2025 for 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM at Lockenour-Jones Mortuary in Cambridge.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 AM on Tuesday morning, November 25, 2025 at Trinity Community Church in Cambridge with Pastor Tim Burke officiating. Burial in the Fairview Cemetery in Cambridge will follow services.
