Wendell Leathead, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, passed away peacefully at Faith Hospice Trillium Woods on September 26, 2025, at the age of 96. Wendell was a man of deep faith, unwavering dedication to his family, and a life marked by service, craftsmanship, and music. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Born on June 26, 1929, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Wendell grew up with a strong sense of duty and commitment to hard work. After graduating from Grandville high school, Wendell answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the United States army at the height of the Korean War. He served with honor and distinction.
Following his military service, Wendell returned home and embarked on a successful career in the construction industry. He was known for his skill, precision, and tireless work ethic contributing to many significant projects over the years. For years he pursued his passion of missionary work, traveling with his wife Grace to Guam, Japan, Brazil, France, and Puerto Rico, spreading the message of God’s love and hope. Wendell was also a gifted church organist and pianist, and for over 50 years shared his love for music with congregations in Michigan and Florida.
Beyond his professional and missionary endeavors, Wendell had a love for restoring and building antique cars, a hobby that brought him great joy. His meticulous attention to detail turned rusty relics into gleaming masterpieces.
Above all, Wendell was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He shared a deep, abiding love with his wife, who was his partner in all things for nearly 73 years. His family was his greatest pride, and he leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and faith. They will forever be grateful for the loving care provided by Emmanuel and Faith Hospice.
Wendell is survived by his three children, Wendy and (Paul) Caminiti, Mark and (Alice) Leathead, Jan and (Mark) Pasma. He was also blessed to have 6 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
The family will be hosting an open house in honor of the life of Wendell Leathead on October 3, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Bauer Christian Reformed Church, 4958 Bauer Rd. Hudsonville MI 49426.
