Wendell Roger Opdahl, 92, of Trail, MN, passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at Villa St Vincent of Crookston, MN.
Memorial service will be at 10:30 AM on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Vernes Lutheran Church, rural McIntosh, MN. Visitation will be one hour before the service.
Interment will be at Vernes Lutheran Cemetery, rural McIntosh, MN
On November 29, 1931, Wendell was born to Andrew and Mable (Knutson) Opdahl at Fosston, MN. He was baptized at Vernes Lutheran Church, rural McIntosh, MN, before attending Lindsay Country School, near his home. He worked at the iron mine in Virgina, MN, and returned to Trail, MN, where he worked at the gravel pit, began farming, and did sheep and goats. Wendell grew and loved strawberries. He did custom sawmilling, and he was the neighborhood mechanic and welder. He loved Western Minnesota Steam Threshers Reunion - Rollag, MN, and Lake Itasca Pioneer Farmers, rural Bagley, MN.
On June 12, 1955, he was united in marriage to Hilda Torkelson at the Vernes Lutheran Church. Wendell liked deer hunting with his family and playing cards (whist and smear); he loved his family11/29/1931. Wendell wood-carved birds and sold them at the church auction.
Wendell is survived by his wife, Hilda Opdahl; children: Carol (David) Dahlen and Roger (Debbie) Opdahl; grandchildren Rachel (Matt) Dahlen, Travis (Bridget) Dahlen, Ashley (Brandon) Nelson, Kelly (Sameer) Pai, great-grandchildren Brayden, Olivia, Briggs, Parker, Alena, Braxton, Senna; Sisters-In-Law Betty Opdahl and Mable McKinney, Jean Quam, and several nieces and nephews.
