A visitation for Howard Opdahl, of Starbuck, Minnesota, will be held on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Starbuck Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Indherred Lutheran Cemetery, rural Starbuck with Pastor Paul Johnson presiding over the committal services.
Howard Kenneth Opdahl was born on December 29, 1938, in Starbuck, Minnesota to Arnold and Helen (Hustad) Opdahl. Howard was baptized and confirmed in his faith at Indherred Lutheran Church in Rural Starbuck. He was raised and received his education in Starbuck. Howard joined the Air National Guard and served from February 15th of 1960 until his discharge on February 14th of 1963. Howard was united in marriage to LoAnne Williams on July 17, 1960, at Fron Lutheran Church in Starbuck. To this union, two children were born, a daughter, Dyanne and a son, Michael. The couple later divorced. Howard spent his working years in Starbuck, as a carpenter and contractor. In October of 2021, due to health reasons, Howard became a resident of the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck where he lived until his death.
Howard was a lifelong member of Indherred Lutheran Church. He enjoyed woodworking and spent countless hours at the Pope Co. Museum in Glenwood. In his youth and again in retirement, Howard really enjoyed raising pigeons.
Howard died peacefully on Monday, May 15, 2023, at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, he was 84 years old.
He is survived by his children: Dyanne (Brad) Parsons of St. Paul Park, MN and Michael (Pennie) Opdahl of Milton, WI; grandchildren: Caitlyn (Ben) Parsons of Cottage Grove, Colin Parsons of Eagan, and Connor Opdahl of Milton, WI; siblings: Sylvia Moen of Aitkin and Elaine (Ken) Klose of Staples. He was preceded in death by his parents: Arnold and Helen Opdahl, and one sister, Margaret Smith.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Pope County Historical Society.
