Wesley J. Wurm, age 65 of Oregon, Ohio, passed away Monday, September 29, 2025, at Toledo Hospital. Wes was born to William Joseph and Norma Jean (Kanavel) Wurm on April 18, 1960, in Toledo, Ohio. He was a 1979 graduate of Woodward High School and went on to work for the Toledo Public Schools Board of Education for over 20 years. Wes then became a journeyman pipefitter with the Local 50. He completed his Associate's in Engineering from Owens Community College and retired from the Local 50 in 2018.
Wes was a larger-than-life man with a big heart. He was an amateur comedian and a published author, with his work featured in The Blade. He volunteered for the NTOFA at Jaime Farr Park for many years, coaching baseball and football for at-risk youth. Wes also coached at the Oregon Rec, baseball, and softball. He was a talented wood carver and a fan of all things Sci-Fi, especially Fantasy and Star Trek. He loved music, movies, pop culture, and The Ohio State Buckeyes. Above all else, he loved his family first.
Wes is survived by his partner of over 20 years, JoAnne Rynski; his children, Joshua (Jamie) Wurm, Sarah (Aaron) Fishler, Gunther (Brennah) Wurm, and Nicholas (Karleigh) Wurm; step-children, Sara, Jessie and Rachel Rynski and Julie Shaffer; grandchildren, Kylie, Kadence, Karley, Isabella, Jackson, and Vada; siblings, Becky (Dan) Donnal and Jeff (Derrissa) Wurm, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Tessa, sister Janice Timpe, and brother Buster Wurm.
A memorial gathering will be held at Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S Wynn Rd in Oregon, Ohio, on Sunday, October 5, 2025, from 12-2 p.m., with a time of sharing at 2 p.m.
