With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Whiton Stewart Paine, who left us peacefully at the age of 82. Whiton was a man of quick wit, boundless intelligence, and a deep, abiding love for his family. His sense of humor-often dark, always sharp-brought laughter to many, and his kindness left a lasting impression on everyone lucky enough to know him.

Whiton is survived by his beloved wife and partner in life of 38 years, Laura Hernandez-Paine, whose love and companionship brought him immeasurable joy. He was a proud and devoted father to his son, Matthew Paine, whom he adored and supported unconditionally.

Whititon, as his extended family called him, is also remembered with love by his extended family, his sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Each held a special place in his heart, and he took great pride in their accomplishments and growth.

Whiton earned his Ph.D. in Psychology and dedicated much of his life to education and ethical thought. As a professor of ethics at Stockton University, he shaped minds and challenged his students to think deeply-not just about what is right, but why. His ethical convictions were unwavering and uncompromising, and he lived every day in accordance with the values he taught. The world would be a far better place with more men like Whiton-principled, thoughtful, and unafraid to stand firmly for what he believed was right.

Whiton lived a life rich in curiosity and conversation. He loved a good story, especially if he could be the one telling it, and he had a special talent for making others feel seen and heard. His absence leaves a hole that cannot be filled, but his memory lives on in the laughter he sparked and the love he gave so freely.

In accordance to Whiton's wishes, a private ceremony will be held for family only. In a year, a celebration of life for friends will be arranged.
