Wilbert "Bill" Kent Wine

Wilbert "Bill" Kent Wine, 85, of Elkhart, passed away Saturday February 21, 2026 at Elkhart General Hospital. He was born December 6, 1940 in Elkhart to Wilbert D. and Thelma (Rude) Wine. On August 14, 1971 in Elkhart he married Penny Garver.

Wilbert graduated Elkhart High School in 1958. He was co-owner of the Outdoor Market on Cassopolis Street in Elkhart. After the store closed, he worked for Pierce Plastics and  LaVanture Products. After retirement he worked part-time for Martins Supermarket in the meat department. He was an avid fisherman and has over 60 fishing rods and held the 2nd place record for the largest pike in Indiana.

Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Penny, 4 daughters, Judi (Larry) Miller, Jodi (Aaron) Beaver, Catherine (Eric) Holdread and Carrie (Keith) Conder, 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren and his sister Diane (Tony) Yoder.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thelma and Wilbert, brother Larry Wine, sister Pam Keeley, his twin sons, Robert Kent Wine and Thomas Allen Wine and a great-grandson, William Kent Berkey.

Visitation for Wilbert will be from 5 to 7pm Monday, February 23, 2026 at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart, IN 46514 and1 hour before the 11am funeral service at the funeral home on Tuesday February 24, 2026 with Pastor Carl Bassett officiating. Burial will follow at Olive Cemetery, Elkhart, IN.
