Wilbur Eugene Brumitt

Gene Brumitt, 85, peacefully passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2023 in St. Joseph, Michigan.
Gene was born on September 6, 1938 in Niles, Michigan to the late Melvin Brumitt and Inez (Scoggins) Brumitt.
Along with his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his sister, Euna Matenaer and brother-in-law, Joe Matenaer.
Left to cherish the memory of Gene are his nieces and nephews, Rick Matenaer of Wisconsin, Bridget (Keith) Heinze of Oregon, Michele (Rick) Winkler of North Carolina, and Renee (Francisco) Soto of Texas.
Gene was a man who found joy in the simple act of walking. He would often be seen strolling through his beloved city of Niles. His love for the outdoors extended to his garden, where he grew flowers and vegetables. Gene also enjoyed reading.
Gene will be remembered for his simple nature and love for his family. An endearing memory of his nieces and nephew will always be his fun wheelbarrow rides around the homestead.
The family thanks the caring staff at the Willow's nursing home in St. Joseph, the Area Agency on Aging and the help of countless friends along the way.
Per Gene's wishes, there will be no services held at this time. Gene's family will privately lay him to rest at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens in Niles, Michigan.
