Wilbur Leland "Bud" Metcalf

Wilbur "Bud" Leland Metcalf, 69, of Concord, North Carolina, passed away surrounded by his loved ones, on June 1st at Atrium Health Cabarrus of Concord following a brief illness.

Bud was born in Lakeland, Florida on August 11th, 1955 to the late Charles Wilbur Metcalf and the late Ann Metcalf. He was a proud 1973 graduate of Lakeland High School and then continued his education at Polk Community College.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents and his granddaughter Alexandrea Renee Metcalf.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters Shannon Rienbeck (Matt) of Harrisburg, NC, Sarah Metcalf File (Chris) of Rockwell, NC, grandchildren Paige Sloop (Michael), Andrew File, Kendall Rienbeck and Jacob Butler, one great-granddaughter who he adored, Drew Sloop, siblings Yvonne Washburn of Ocala, FL, Carolyn Shelton (Terry) of Plant City, FL, Charles Metcalf (Leslie) of Plant City, FL and several nieces and nephews.

Bud was an avid traveler and often took trips with his brother to see different parts of the country. He also enjoyed Shag dancing and loved teaching people to Shag dance where ever he went. Another one of his favorite things to do was attend live beach music concerts.

He was a very devoted father and grandfather. His favorite title was Poppy and he never missed the opportunity to go to every sporting event, play or special event that his grandchildren were in. His pride in his grandchildren was immeasurable and he loved each of them dearly.

Bud had a very special girlfriend, Sherry Walter, who stood by him and loved him wholeheartedly.

In most recent years, Bud gained a group of friends, lovingly named the "Old Mans Walking Crew" who he walked with daily at the YMCA and had weekly breakfasts with.

The family asks that you honor the life Bud lived by cherishing every moment, loving those around you and never missing an opportunity to spend time with those you love.

There will be a celebration of life for Bud on a future date that will be announced once arrangements are made.

In lieu of flowers, friends and family are asked to consider making a donation to the American Heart Association.
