LANESVILLE, IN
Wilbur G. Richmer passed from his earthly life to eternal life with our heavenly Father on Sunday evening March 13, 2022, at Guerin Woods, with family at his side. Wilbur was born on July 30, 1929, to Clemens Richmer and Evamay Bach Richmer in Lanesville, IN. He grew up on the family farm and Lanesville was his home his entire life.
He married Helen Mason Richmer on August 21, 1953, and together they raised nine children.
Wilbur was a lifetime member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He sang in the church choir, was a chicken fryer for the annual church picnic, a member of the church Building and Grounds committee for many years, and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1808.
Wilbur held several jobs during his adult years, including being a meter reader for Public Service, briefly serving the town of Lanesville as a mail carrier, working as a bookkeeper, and was a certified electrician.
He retired from Public Service / Duke Energy in 1991 after 29 years of service. In retirement, he returned to his roots on the family farm and spent many years with his wife and sons growing and selling strawberries on Richmer Berry Farm. He and Helen enjoyed traveling, playing Euchre, square dancing, bowling, attending the annual Senior Games and spending time with family and friends. They also spent many Sundays during the spring and summer attending the local parish church picnics.
Wilbur was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 65 years, Helen Richmer; his brothers, Charles and Edward Richmer; and sisters, Theresa Richmer and Yvonne (Bonnie) Sprigler.
Left to cherish his memory are his children: Michael (Bobbie) Richmer; Cheryl (Dale) Walther; Janice Richmer; Angela Galvez; Donald (Debbie) Richmer; David Richmer; Patrick Richmer; Nancy (Glenn) Spainhour; and John (Lori) Richmer. Grandchildren: Jason Bube (Shelly); Nicholas Bube (Alexis); Andrea Bube (Ross Swingle); Alyssa Mackin (Steven); Jennifer Gordon (Scott); Katelyn Wager (Chris); Matthew Richmer (Sami); David Galvez and Daniel Galvez. Step-grandchildren: Steven Coogle and Jessica Schnellenberger. Great grandchildren: Evan Bube, Alexander Bube, Logan Bube, Violet Richmer, and Marshall Wager. Step-great grandchildren:
Ella & Reily Gaskill; and Westin, Paisley and Shiloh Schnellenberger,
He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to thank the staff, nurses and caregivers at Guerin Woods for the exceptional care they gave Dad in his final years, and Amedisys Hospice for their compassionate care and guidance in Wilburs final days.
Visitation will be at Gehlbach and Royse Funeral Home in Georgetown, IN, on Friday. March 18, from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday morning from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. The Rosary will be at 7:00 p.m. Friday evening.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 19, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Lanesville, IN, with burial following in the Church cemetery. Fr. Bob St. Martin and Deacon Rick Cooper officiating.
