In a spirited celebration of a life well-lived, we honor the memory of Willa Hagood, affectionately known as "Bill" to some, or Miss Blue to her beloved late husband of 67 years, Charles. Born Willa Mae Kimmey on May 7, 1933, in Splendora, Texas, she lived a life filled with laughter, love, and an unwavering drive to inspire those around her. Despite her recent passing on July 28, 2025, her compassionate spirit continues to live on in the hearts of those who knew and adored her.
Willa was a woman of many talents and passions. She was the valedictorian of her high school senior class in Silsbee, TX, and she earned both her Bachelor's and her Master's Degrees at University of North Texas in Denton, TX. Her 4.0 GPA was a testament to her dedication and discipline. Her love for education led her to a fulfilling career within the Lewisville Independent School District. She taught Spanish and English for several years at the middle school and high school level. During the last few years of her education career, she helped to open Marcus High School in Flower Mound, TX and served as a counselor there. But Willa's love wasn't confined to the classrooms and hallways of the school she served; she also had a passion for golf, gardening, playing bridge, sewing, and travel. A voracious reader and a gracious host, she often entertained and cooked for her friends and family. The arrival of new babies in the family made her absolutely "beside herself with sheer happiness and joy."
Willa was a beacon of love and encouragement. Unconditional love was one of her most notable traits, making her a mother to more than just her biological children. Her inspiring spirit was reflected in her favorite Bible verse, Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." When she was diagnosed with terminal inoperable cancer on July 4th, she simply said, "I'm ready, Lord." Her family knew that from that day forward, every July 4th could either bring them great sadness or great joy. Always looking for the positive in every situation, as she taught them to do, they have chosen to always honor that holiday as Willa's own personal Independence Day and to celebrate it even more than ever before.
Willa is survived by her daughter, Beverly Kim Owen; her son, Charles "Chuck" Hagood, Jr; her sister, Hester Busby; her grandsons, Steven Owen, Jr., Gregory Owen, Nathan Hagood and Tyler Hagood; her granddaughter, Jennifer Waters; her great grandsons, Ethan Ciccarello, Luke Hagood, and Grady Owen; her great granddaughters, Ava Ciccarello, Myla Owen and Angeleigh Hagood. She is preceded in death by her parents, William Alva and Ollie Pearl Kimmey; her beloved husband, Charles Hagood, Sr; and her sisters, Dolores Nicar and Maxine Woosley.
A memorial service in honor of Willa's legacy will be held on Monday, August 25, 2025, at 11:00 am CDT at the North Dallas Funeral Home located at 2710 Valley View Lane,
Farmers Branch, Texas, 75234.
