William F. "Bill" Allen Jr, 88, of
Indialantic, Florida, passed away December 09, 2025. He was born January 25, 1937 in Toulminville, Alabama to William F. Allen, Sr. and Mary Hill Allen.
Bill was a witty, mischievous, and at times sarcastic guy who had a penchant for jokes. From a noticeably early age he had a curiosity for the world around him and always had a thirst for knowledge. Throughout his life his curiosity led him to study the works of William Shakespeare, all kinds of music, home winemaking, sailing (with limited success), genealogy, lawn mower repair (there really was a class for that), and the law.
Bill earned a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Auburn University. He later completed his master's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Following graduation from Penn, Bill joined the Army and was stationed in Heidelberg, Germany where he worked in the Army Signal Corp. While in the service Bill travelled extensively throughout Europe. Upon his return to the States, Bill worked at a number of companies as an electrical engineer. Those companies include Philco, Westinghouse, RCA, General Electric, and ultimately Harris Semiconductor in Melbourne, Florida. In 1979 Bill was honored to receive the prestigious David Sarnoff Award for Outstanding Technical Achievement from RCA for working with a team to develop a unique family of integrated circuits. Bill finalized his career acting as a business consultant to mid and small sized companies nationally, and later worked with small businesses in the Melbourne, Florida area.
Following retirement, Bill was a longtime AARP tax return volunteer, supervising a team of volunteer income tax preparers during tax season. Bill was also a proud volunteer clerk for local elections in Brevard County, Florida.
Bill is survived by his wife, Barbara, his sister Pamela Allen Wallace (Kenneth), his daughters Karen Allen Nicolaus (Michael) and Stacy Pamela Allen (Paul Lee), his stepchildren Virginia Bartow, Stephen Bartow (Gretchen), Lisa Langham, and Carol McCauslin (Mitch). He was a beloved grandfather to grandchildren Olivia, Daniel, Drew, Alex, Adam, Jared, Tiffani, Joshua, Alyssa, Emily, Luke and Gabe.
A service honoring Bill will be held after the holidays.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to The
Wounded Warrior Project.
