William Douglas "Buck" Baker, 95, of Cross Junction, VA, passed away Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Buck was born in 1929, the son of the late William Royal and Rose Frances Baker. He was a graduate of Gainesboro High School in Frederick County, VA, and a veteran of the United States Army, achieving the rank of Corporal. Buck was the owner/operator of a sawmill and farmer. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and watching baseball. His passion was farming the land, but the thing he loved the most was spending time with his family. Buck attended Gainesboro United Methodist Church.
His wife, Ruby Marie Baker, whom he married on April 18, 1959, preceded him in death in 2014.
Surviving is a daughter, Tina Skinner (Billy), and a son, Todd Baker (Bethany) both of Cross Junction, VA; grandchildren, Amanda Parrill, Elizabeth Shade, Morgan Duvall, and Logan Baker; eight great-grandchildren; and brother, Walter Baker of Cross Junction, VA; and two step-granddaughters, Danielle and Nicolette Kerns; one step great-granddaughter, Maddie Duvall.
Along with his parents and wife Buck was preceded in death by sisters, Nancy Messall and Janice White.
A visitation will be from 6 pm to 8 pm on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 am on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at Mount Hebron Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Buck's memory to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork Street, Suite 405, Winchester, VA 22601 or Gainesboro Fire and Rescue, 221 Gainesboro Road, Winchester, VA 22603.
