William “Bill” Frederick Beckwith, 90, of Central, SC, passed away on July 13th, 2025.

Bill was born on October 4th, 1934, to the late Fritz and Wilma Beckwith in Marshalltown, Iowa. He graduated with a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Iowa State University in 1963. Following graduation, Bill worked as a professor at Clemson University for 36 years. Bill served as the Head Tennis Coach at Clemson after serving 7 years as assistant coach for the program.

Bill was also very active in both his Church at Fort Hill Presbyterian, and The Boy Scouts of America for many years. He was both an elder of the Church and a recipient of the Boy Scouts Silver Beaver award. Bill was also an avid runner, winning dozens of local races and participating in several marathons. He finished his last marathon at the age of 65.

Bill is survived by his cherished wife of 65 years, Janet J. Beckwith; Sons, Steve Beckwith (Corrine), Scott Beckwith (Gretchen), and Sean; Daughter, Susan Beckwith; Grandchildren, Mike, Severin, Hannah, Sydney, and Kathryn; and 3 Great-Grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held in Bill’s honor at Fort Hill Presbyterian Church on Saturday, August 9th, 2025, starting at 11:00 am.

Bill was a generous person who loved to teach. He will be greatly missed.
