William J. Breeden, a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2024, in
Bloomington, Indiana, at the age of 95. Born on September 8, 1928, in
Bedford, Indiana, to Franklin Pierce Breeden and Genevieve (Parr) Breeden, Bill was a man whose vibrant spirit and friendly demeanor touched the lives of many in his community.
Bill proudly served his country in the United States Army from July 1948 to May 1952 during the Korean War. His dedication to service was a defining aspect of his life. Following his military service, he followed his father's footsteps and continued the family legacy as a Lineman for IBEW 1393, a commitment to the union that spanned an impressive 72 years. His passion and strong work ethic were shared and carried on by his son and grandsons, uniting four generations in the same noble trade. Bill was also a member of Liberty Church of Christ. Bill's love for social interaction was evident in his hobbies; he was an avid Bingo player and a lifetime member of the Bloomington AMVETS Post 2000. His presence was a staple at the Hendricksville Diner, where he enjoyed starting his days with friends and laughter. His regular patronage and warm personality were so appreciated that "The Wild Bill Special" became a beloved breakfast feature on the diner's menu. Bill was also a former member of the Bloomington Masonic Lodge #22, where he formed lasting bonds and contributed to the community's fraternal spirit. Bill was always ready and willing to offer a helping hand to anyone that needed it. Even in his final days he was willing to help in whatever projects or chores his children had going.
He is survived by a loving family that includes his children, Steve P. (Jeanne) Breeden, Billy G. (Kathy) Breeden, and Lisa (Tom) Stevens; daughter-in-law, Bobbi Breeden; grandchildren, Jay (Leila) Breeden, Will (Lexi) Breeden, C.J. (Jena) Breeden, Cory Breeden, Ryan (Samantha) Swafford, Toby (Lori) Breeden, Kirsten Stewart, Justin (Jason) Stevens, and Zack Stevens; along with sixteen great-grandchildren, and one great great-grandchild who will carry on his legacy of kindness and resilience.
Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Wilma J. Breeden, his father, Franklin Pierce Breeden, his mother, Genevieve Breeden, and two sons, Christopher S. Breeden and Michael J. Breeden.
Those who knew Bill will remember him as the epitome of friendliness, a man who greeted everyone with a smile and left a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of crossing his path. His stories, laughter, and the warmth of his company will be deeply missed but fondly remembered.
