William Bregenzer, age 84, died on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, NY. He was born on April 24, 1940, in Troy, NY and was the son of the late William A. and Geraldine (Nash) Bregenzer. Bill was a graduate of Troy High School and later continued his education at Union College where he earned his bachelor's degree. He was also a veteran who proudly served in the United States Army.
Bill's professional life was dedicated to his work as a civil engineer with the New York State Department of Transportation in Albany, NY. His career was marked by a genuine passion for helping others, a quality that he carried with him throughout his life.
Known for his engaging storytelling and deep knowledge of history, Bill was a lifelong learner with an insatiable curiosity. He was famous for his ability to weave fascinating tales and share historical insights, making every conversation an opportunity for discovery.
Bill was a dedicated member of Shenendehowa United Methodist Church, where he served in numerous capacities throughout his life, contributing significantly to the church community.
Bill was also an avid sports fan, proudly supporting the Mets and the Jets. His love for baseball and football was a defining part of his personality, and he enjoyed every moment spent cheering for his favorite teams.
Bill's legacy is one of kindness, curiosity, and a love for both people and learning. He will be remembered for his generosity, his unwavering support of his friends and family, and the joy he brought to those around him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kim Bregenzer; his sister Joyce Bregenzer; his children, Suzette (Bradford Easterbrook) Kraus, Deborah (Michael) Wilk, Andrew (Jill) Bregenzer and Jeffrey Bregenzer. He was cherished by his nine granddaughters, one grandson, and two great-grandsons.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Monday, September 16, 2024, from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM, at Townley & Wheeler Funeral Home, 21 Midline Road, Ballston Lake, NY 12019.
A Funeral Service, led by Reverend Justin Hood, Pastor, will be held on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at 11:00 AM, at Shenendehowa United Methodist Church, 971 NY-146, Clifton Park, NY.
Interment with military honors will be held privately at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Heart & Stroke Association, 7272 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75231.
