William Max Chambers, Jr.
Thursday, November 18, 1937 – Saturday, January 10, 2026
William Max Chambers, Jr., age 88, of Rhine, Georgia, peacefully and gracefully left this world on January 10, 2026, surrounded by those he loved and who loved him-most especially his adoring bride, who lay faithfully by his side and held him as he passed from this life to the next. Max was born on November 18, 1937, in
Milan, Georgia to the late William Max Chambers, Sr. and Mandylu Cravey Chambers.
A funeral service will be held at Sharon Baptist Church on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at 3:00 P.M. with Reverend Benny Moore officiating, assisted by Reverend Arnold Rye. Interment will follow at Sharon Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will visit with friends at the church on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, from 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM prior to the service.
Max is survived by his loving wife, Ida Margaret Chambers of Rhine; sons, David Michael Chambers of Rhine, Gregory Mark Chambers (Isabell) of Talking Rock, Georgia, Young Daniel Chambers (Bridget) of Warner Robins, and William Max Chambers, III (Deborah June) of Cullman, Alabama; Grandchildren, Kasey Brown and Tori Chambers, Brandon Anthony Chambers, Tristin Skyler Christman and Ana Grace Christman; Great-Grandchildren, Blake and Lucas Hattaway, Addison Carol and C.J. Horton; sister, Frankie Johnson and Helen Rutledge of Lizella and Ramona Duckworth of Macon. He was preceded in death by his granddaughters, Kimberly Sullivan and Kandi Chambers, brother, Floyd Chambers and sister, Betty Knowles.
Max proudly joined the United States Air Force, where he served with distinction as a radar operator. After his honorable discharge, Max continued to serve his community by joining the civilian workforce at Robins Air Force Base. His years of military experience made him an invaluable asset, and he quickly became a fixture at the base.
An honorable man, Max Chambers grew up working hard, picking cotton, tobacco, and performing the many tasks required of a farmer's son. He was a blessing to his mother and daddy from an early age. As a young boy, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and remained faithful to the Lord throughout his entire life. At the age of seventeen, Max met the little girl who would become his wife, Ida Margaret Clarke. Together they built a life rooted in faith, devotion, and love, remaining faithful to the Lord and to each other throughout 68 years of marriage. After God, his greatest love was his beautiful wife, whom he cherished and adored deeply. Max served the Lord honorably as a deacon and teacher. He was a hard worker who provided well for his family and gave abundantly to others out of kindness and mercy. He stood for righteousness and all that is right with tenacity and fervency, never compromising his loyalty or commitment to God. He honored the Lord with his mind, mouth, hands, ears, feet, and heart. A devoted husband and father, Max faithfully took his family to church, read the Bible, and prayed with them each night. He taught his children Bible verses and lived the life of a Christian man before them as a daily example. He prayed before every meal and began and ended each day with prayer. He humbly shared Christ with others, never bragging on himself or drawing attention to his own deeds. Max was a man of quiet humility. He would step aside so another could pass, stand so others could sit, and take the back seat so someone else could have the front. He stood without hesitation for the weak and for those in need.
Though Max will be greatly missed, the influence of his life will endure in the countless lives he touched. What a man. What a legacy. We give thanks to God for such a remarkable life and the lasting testimony he leaves behind.
