William Joseph "Bill" Check, age 93 of Prairie du Chien, WI passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at Bluff Haven in Prairie du Chien. He was born in Eastman, WI on November 19, 1931, to John and Amelia (Berntgen) Check. Bill married Wanda Schierholz on May 31, 1955, at St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Prairie du Chien. Bill managed the FS Feed mill in Eastman, WI for over 35 years. He also helped bartend at the Eagles Club in Prairie du Chien for many years. Bill enjoyed tending to his garden and playing cards with friends and family alike. Bill was a great guy who would always make you smile with his little antics of cards, his love for collecting things and pawning them off to people, showing off his old photos and explaining every picture, and many more. He is survived by his wife of 70 years Wanda; daughters Vicki (Denis) Olson of Blanchardville, WI, Brenda (Scott) Herrman of Sparta, WI, Lynn Eckert of Prairie du Chien, and Joyce (Leonard) Davis of Sparta, WI; 8 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and 2 great, great grandchildren; and 2nd family, Cindy, Deb, Scott, Joan, Bill and Renee. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Thelma Zimmer, Helen Evert, Esther Hamann, Dorothy and Mildred Zimmerman; twin brother Robert and brother Jack.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, June 20, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Gabriel's Church of the Holy Family Parish, Fr. Brandon Guenther officiating with burial in the Calvary Cemetery, both in Prairie du Chien. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of mass. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to St. Gabriel's Church of the Holy Family Parish or Crossing Rivers Hospice, both in Prairie du Chien.
