Lawrence Check Obituary
Of South Milwaukee. Found peace at home after a short, but hard fought battle with cancer, on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at the age of 60 years. Beloved husband for 33 years of Kathleen (nee Stankowski). Caring father of Joshua Check (Cassie Zingsheim) and Jeremy (Rebecca) Check, stepfather of Ann Hancock (Matt Duty) and Jonathan Hancock (Caitlyn Rife). Very proud grandpa of Elizabeth Hancock and Victoria Last. Dear brother of Raymond (Lorraine) Check, Gerald (the late Betty) Check and Geraldine (Val) Furmanek. Loyal friend and comrade to his fellow field service winders, especially Jason Artrip. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, other family, neighbors, friends, and extended family, Jimmy Bakalarski (Lizzie Garcia). He was born in Stevens Point to Raymond and Rosalie (nee Marquard) Check and spent his early life in the Shantytown/Rosholt area until joining the military. Larry was a Field Service Generator Winder, who had most recently worked for NES/ Fircroft, but had also worked for Toshiba/Regenco, and Siemens in the past. Larry traveled the country as well as abroad to various power plants and generation stations to complete field service repairs. He was a United States Army veteran who served 4 years of active duty at Ford Hood in Texas. He enjoyed fishing, cooking, playing pool, and gardening. He was a good friend and neighbor, who was always ready and willing to offer advice or lend a hand. He especially enjoyed making pickles from the cucumbers and dill that he had grown in his garden and sharing them from his roadside station with neighbors and friends. The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic at St. Lukes South Shore and the Aurora at Home Hospice team, for the care given and support shown to Larry and his family.
Following his wishes, Larry will be cremated. A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor, allowing friends and family to come together to celebrate his life and the impact he had on those around him. It will be held on March 8th, 2025 at Barbiere's Italian Inn in South Milwaukee, from 11 AM - 2:30 PM. We would like to invite all who knew and loved Larry to come and pay their respects.
