William Cleaver

William "Bill" Cleaver, of Calabash, NC born on April 15, 1943, in Paterson, NJ, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2025, in Myrtle Beach, NC, at the age of 82. With a life marked by dedication, love, and friendship, Billy leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire those who knew him.

Bill devoted 35 years of his professional life to serving his community through his work at Public Service Electric and Gas. His unwavering commitment and work ethic made him a respected and admired figure in his field. Beyond his career, Bill was a man of many passions and interests, most notably his love for golf. He could often be found on the greens, and his enthusiasm for the game even led him to take a job as a bag drop at Meadowlands, where he shared his love of the sport with all he met.

An avid sports fan, Bill especially cherished hockey and cheered passionately for the New York Rangers. Although basketball wasn't his favorite pastime, his broad interests and joyful spirit made him a beloved friend to many.

Bill's faith was a guiding light throughout his life. As a member of the Catholic Church and a proud serviceman of the New Jersey National Guard, he exemplified the values of faith and service. His warm heart and generous nature made him a good friend to many, always ready to lend an ear or a helping hand.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of nearly 50 years, Sue Cleaver, who stood by his side through life's peaks and valleys. Together, they built a family filled with love and laughter. He is also survived by his daughters, Darlene Canete (and husband Tom) of New Jersey, and Robyn Speckhart (and husband Alan) of Connecticut; his son, Larry Cleaver (and wife Melissa) of New Jersey; and his cherished grandchildren, Justin (and wife Ari), Jake, Olivia (and husband Andre), Nickolas, and Alexander. Bill was also blessed to be a great-grandfather to Vivienne, who brought additional joy to his life. He leaves behind his dear sister, Mary Lou Burslem, who was a lifelong companion and confidante.

Though no services are planned at this time, the memories of Bill's kindness, humor, and zest for life will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. His legacy is one of love, resilience, and inspiration, and he will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
