William Clift Obituary

Publish in a newspaper

William Joseph Clift, 84, of White Township, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on August 26, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on January 8, 1941, in Carbondale, PA to the late Millard and Mary (Muir) Clift. He was raised in Carbondale and carried the values of his small-town upbringing throughout his life.

Bill made the decision to move to New York City for his first job. Shortly afterward he was drafted into the United States Army, where he proudly served his country in Vietnam from 1963 to 1965. Upon returning home, he resumed his former job where he soon met the love of his life, Katherine "Rena." They married in 1968 and moved to Staten Island, before settling in Andover, NJ to raise their family. Bill and Rena eventually retired in Belvidere, NJ.

Bill had a 40 year career working as senior lead technician for international telecommunication networks, working for Western Union International, MCI, WorldCom, and lastly Verizon. He was known for his strong work ethic, deep integrity, and quiet wisdom.

Bill was an avid fan of football, wrestling and lacrosse, always present on the sidelines supporting his grandchildren in their athletic endeavors. Moreover, he loved attending all of their plays and concerts. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife especially to Italy, on Caribbean cruises, and to national state parks. A lifelong New York Giants fan, he spent countless afternoons enjoying the games and could often be heard "coaching" from his recliner. Bill also was a proud member of the American Legion Post 131 in Belvidere, NJ.

Above all else, William was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Katherine "Rena" Clift; and his three daughters: Kimberly Shotwell (Christopher), Lisa Moyer (Jason), and Lori Ayres (Christopher). He will be deeply missed by his six grandchildren: Collin and Christian Shotwell, Maximus and Maci Moyer, and Chloe and Atticus Ayres.

William's legacy is one of quiet strength, unwavering love, and a well-lived life. Often, when asked, "How you doin'?" he would reply, "Right down the middle." His words remind us to appreciate the little moments in life, keep things straightforward, and find joy in the everyday.

Family and friends may gather for visitation on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Newbaker Funeral Home, 200 Route 94, Blairstown (GPS may say Columbia). A funeral Mass will begin at 1:30 PM at St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church in Belvidere with interment immediately afterward at the Northern New Jersey Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Sparta.
