William Commons Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Oakley-Hammond Funeral Home on Mar. 30, 2023.
Bill Commons of Indianapolis passed away on March 22 at the age of 76. He was the son of Joseph and Florence Commons and brother of Patricia, Thomas, Stephen and Linda. Bill attended St. Philip Neri grade school, Scecina Memorial High School, and Marian College. He worked at a number of jobs, initially as an accountant and later at Fed X, but the job that gave him the greatest satisfaction was doing machinery work at a company he co-owned with a childhood friend. Being of Irish decent on his father's side, he had a special love of the Irish culture. He was a big Notre Dame football fan and watched many of their games at the Golden Ace Inn, a popular Irish bar. He was an avid golfer, followed both the Colts and Pacers, and was a big Indy Car fan. Bill was known in his family for his talent in grilling and cooking and hosting the annual Commons Family Christmas Eve party for decades. He is survived by his brother Tom and niece Kara Commons Long.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, March 30 at Oakley-Hammond Funeral Home (5342 E Washington Street, Indianapolis, IN 46219) between the hours 5:00 – 7:00 PM and a Mass at St. Philip Neri church (550 N Rural St, Indianapolis, IN, 46201) on Friday, March 31 at 1:00 PM.

So sad to hear the news of my favorite coach of all time. He coached all 4 years of my of my SPN basketball days and with always great results with his coaching. He was a a kind man and guided us young people to succeed further in our lives.
