William "Bill" Joseph Courtney Sr. was born on February 23, 1951, in St. Louis, Missouri. He was one of seven children born to Hugh McLauren and Gertrude Agnes (Charleville) Courtney. Bill grew up in Crystal City, Missouri and graduated in 1969 from Crystal City High School.
Bill served his country enlisting in both the Army National Guard and the Air Force National Guard. During his time in the military, Bill furthered his education and for his honorable and faithful service, he earned several decorations, medals, ribbons, and awards. Bill liked spending time with other Veterans and was a proud supporter of the American Legion Post 99.
Bill was united in marriage to his sweetheart, Amanda Dee Blanchard, on September 26, 2015, in Dent County, Missouri. They shared the past eight years together, making lasting memories. Bill and Amanda were blessed to share four children: Jody, BJ, Tiffaney, and Jacquilyn. He truly loved his family and treasured time spent with them, especially with his five grandchildren.
A hardworking man, Bill was employed in the mining industry for forty-five years. He started working with St. Joe Lead Mines and retired from the Doe Run Company. In his spare time, Bill enjoyed spending time in the woods hunting and near the water fishing.
Bill departed this life on August 23, 2023, in Salem, Missouri at the age of seventy-two years. Those left behind to cherish his memory are his loving wife: Amanda Courtney of Salem, MO; children: Jody Parker and husband Garry of Bunker, MO, BJ Courtney and wife Heather of Salem, MO, Tiffaney Contreras and husband Cristian of Clarksville, TN, and Jacquilyn Fithian of Salem, MO; siblings: Carol Papin and husband Bob, Renee Weinrich, Susan Self, Sherry Courtney, and Chad Courtney and wife Amy; grandchildren: Emily Wallis and husband Andrew, Elijah Contreras, Emilia Contreras, Austin Courtney, and Atlee Courtney; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dear friends.
Preceding him in death, his parents: Hugh and Gertrude Courtney; sister: Barb Partney and husband Jim; and his brother-in-law: Virgil Weinrich.
Bill will be forever missed. His legacy will live on in those who loved him most.
