William D. Curry, a retired supermarket manager for the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, August 21, 2024. He was 97 years of age.
The son of William D. and Sophia B. Curry, he was born on December 25, 1926 in Newburgh, NY. He served in the US Navy during WWII, and was a signalman in an advanced communications unit.
On October 3, 1953, he married Margaret V. LaRosso in St. Patrick's Church in Newburgh, NY. She predeceased him on October 22, 2000, after 47 years of marriage.
Bill enjoyed his retirement on the farm, in the Town of Newburgh, along with his trusty old Farmall tractor, mowing hay or plowing snow.
He is survived by his daughter, Margaret M. Curry, known as Meg, and her husband Carl S. Wood, of Poughkeepsie, NY (Town of LaGrange); and nieces Paula and Jeannie LaRosso of Daytona Beach Shores, FL, and Susan McCauley of Westford, VT.
There will be no visitation or services. A private burial will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery in New Windsor, NY, under the supervision of Brooks Funeral Home.
Providing sustenance to the local community was important to Bill. Donations may be provided to the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley, Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY.
