William E. Custard, 84, of Swiftwater, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, October 2, 2025, surrounded by his family. He is the husband of Barbara E. (Fish) Custard with whom he shared 57 years of marriage.

Born on February 1, 1941 in East Stroudsburg, he was a son of the late Ernest G. and Hazel M. (Butz) Custard and lived in Monroe County for most of his life. After retiring, he and Barbara relocated to Florida, where they lived for 16 years until moving back to Pennsylvania in 2018.

He was a 1959 graduate of Stroudsburg High School, attended Churchman's Business School in Easton for two years, and then served in the United States Army from 1961 to 1963.

In earlier years he worked at Line Material/Patterson-Kelley and in 1967 began his career with ESSA Bank where he worked for thirty-four years until retiring in 2001 as Executive Vice President. He was also the bookkeeper for Lucille's Place hair salon in Stroudsburg for many years.

Bill was a long-time member of the Stroudsburg United Methodist Church. He was an avid train collector and member of the Train Collectors Association. Every year he would put up a train layout for his boys at Christmas time. Bill was involved in the Rotary Club of The Stroudsburgs where he was a past-treasurer. He was also involved with the Boy Scouts of America and the Stroudsburg Little League where he served as treasurer.

In addition to his wife, surviving are three sons, Brian Custard (Lori Chaplin) of Stroudsburg, Steven Custard (David) of Dunmore and Michael Custard (Michelle) of Bartonsville; six grandchildren, Joshua, Ethan, Brody, Elizabeth, Ryder and Ryan Masterson; a sister, Susan Piazza of Alabama; sisters-in law Pat Custard of Ocean City NJ and Lucille Read of Bethel PA; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, David Custard and brother in-law Ronnie Fish.

A celebration of life in Bill's honor will be held on Saturday October 11, 2025 from two to four o'clock at St. Mark's Community Lutheran Church, 242 Miller Road, Stroudsburg, PA 18360.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial remembrances be made to St. Mark's Community Lutheran Church, 242 Miller Road, Stroudsburg, PA 18360 or to Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 678, PO Box 103, Stroudsburg, PA 18360.
