Waterville – William "Billy" Dostie, 83, heard the gentle, peaceful call of "Sammy" (that great Salmon residing in heaven; the one who teased Billy for years on the beautiful waters of East Grand Lake in Danforth Maine) at Oak Grove Center in Waterville on the evening of Friday, September 6, 2025, at 7:40pm. Billy's son, Randy, was by his side as he transitioned to another time, another place.
Billy was born in Waterville on April 29, 1942, the son of Harvey Dostie and Violet (Rancourt) Dostie. He attended Waterville High School and graduated in 1961.
Billy worked at the Waterville railroad for many years, before enjoying retirement. It was there, his coworkers nicknamed him "Crow," as he loved imitating the sweet sound. He spent his lifetime with a deep faith in God. For decades Billy went – daily – to the Blessed Sacrament to speak with his God.
Billy loved watching television, especially westerns. At times, it was almost impossible to get his attention while he was doing so. He also loved hunting and fishing (see above and below). And, oh the joy, of listening to this wonderful man "play the spoons." Music is good for the soul; Billy proved this in his unique way.
Billy was predeceased by his parents, Harvey and Violet (Rancourt) Dostie; his brothers, David and his wife, Dorothy; Vincent; and Ricky; his sisters, Pauline and her husband, Dick (Bartlett); Maureen and her husband, Richard (Champagne); Connie and (Mike Jordan); Zilda and her husband, Robert (Champagne).
He is survived by Sandra (Adams) Dostie; sons, Darren and his wife, Shelley, Randy and his partner, Diane, and Chris; his daughters, Laurie and her partner, Butch, and Lisa. Billy, too, is survived by 5 grandchildren: Jenna, Katie, Ashley, Nathan, and Dakota. He had 11 great grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews who will dearly miss him.
Sandra is grateful that the grace of God took away the hurt from years of battling dementia. His immediate family are glowing, knowing that his smile, his spirit, and his strong belief in God will brighten other family and friends as Billy reminds them all the proper way to "catch ALL OF THE Sammy's" once more.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Wednesday, October 1st, 2025 at Notre Dame Catholic Church, 116 Silver Street, Waterville.
Arrangements are under the direction and are of Gallant Funeral Home, 10 Elm Street, Waterville. An online guestbook may be signed; condolences and memories shared at www.gallantfh.com.
In lieu of flowers, please consider trolling along the wondrous waters of East Grand Lake. As you do so, see and feel the sunshine; absorb the breathtaking clear, blue sky, and quietly thank God for Mother Nature doing what Mother Nature does. Billy will surely be looking down and guiding each of you/us still. He will be nudging everyone in the direction of the light in this world, through his extraordinary faith in the grace of God.
