William Lee Dutton, 87, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother passed away on January 4, 2026 at his residence in Carbon Hill, Alabama surrounded by his loving family.

William Dutton was born on March 30, 1938 in Townley, Alabama to Gladys Wright Carrell and Mays Wright. He was a willing and faithful servant of Jesus Christ all his life and raised his family to do the same. He loved his wife Betty Dian Dutton for 65 years, and together they built a beautiful family filled with love, laughter, and joy.

He was a devoted father to Karen Dutton, Richard Dutton, and Renee Dutton McTyeire, and he raised them to follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ.

He loved his grandson, granddaughters, great grandsons, and great granddaughter with all his heart. He was loved by all who knew him, and he leaves a legacy that will live on in the lives of his family and friends for generations.

He was a member of Townley Freewill Baptist Church in Townley where he served as a deacon. He was a proud Army veteran, he retired from AT&T in 1999 after 30 years and was a respected member of the Walker County farming community.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Betty Dian Dutton; his son, Richard Dutton (Lisa Burtram Dutton); his daughters, Karen Dutton and Renee Dutton McTyeire (Shaye McTyeire); his grandson, Colin Waldo; his granddaughters, Amanda Reeves (Josh Reeves), Kenda Goforth (Riley Goforth), and Renee Sargent (Zachary Sargent); his great-grandchildren, Rebecca Reeves, Evan Goforth, and Mason Goforth.

He is preceded in death by his father, Mays Wright, and his mother, Gladys Wright Carrell.

The family would like to thank the many friends who have called and visited, as well as Gentiva Hospice.

Visitation will be held at Collins Burke in Jasper, Alabama on Friday, January 9, 2026 1:00 p.m. at Collins-Burke Funeral Home. The funeral will take place on Friday, January 9, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. in the Collins-Burke Chapel.
