William "Bill" LeRoy Emerick, 88, of Cumberland, MD, passed away on Monday, August 11, 2025, in the company of his loving daughter Glenda.
William Emerick was born September 8, 1936, in Hyndman, PA, the son of Virgil Emerick and Iva Abel. He graduated from Allegany High School in 1955.
Bill joined the U.S. Navy Reserve in 1956 and was called to active duty on August 27, 1956. He remained on active duty until September 10, 1958, when he was honorably discharged. He completed his Navy obligation in 1962.
He married Christine Maxine Rice on January 8, 1957, in the United Brethren Church, with Dr. Carl Miller, pastor, performing the ceremony. The couple had one child, a daughter, Glenda. They enjoyed a long happy marriage together until Christine's death in 2014.
Bill worked as a Tire Builder at the Kelly Springfield Tire Company. He retired August 5, 1985, following the plant closure.
Bill especially loved golfing, fishing, and family card game get-togethers. He spent many happy hours with friends and grandchildren on golf courses in the Cumberland area and when vacationing in Florida and the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
William Emerick was a devoutly religious person and was a member of the Fairview Avenue United Methodist Church.
Remaining to cherish William's memory are daughter Glenda Budz and her husband Charles; grandchildren, William Budz and Stephanie Travis and her husband Michael; brother-in-law Buddy Rice and his wife Mary Jo.
Preceding William in death are spouse, Christine Emerick; parents, Virgil Emerick and Iva Abel; brother, Dewey Emerick; brother-in-law Glen Rice, and sister-in-law, Billie Jean Eaton.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2025 from 10am until noon at Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD followed by a funeral service with Clinton Rice officiating. Military honors will be accorded at the funeral home at 12:00 Noon by the Post #13 Veterans Honor Guard. A private interment will be in the Maryland Veterans' Cemetery at Rocky Gap.
Repast is at 2:30 at Hobo's Restaurant, 180 Hyndman Rd., Hyndman, PA.
