William Marcus Ezzell, 64, affectionately known as "Marky," passed away peacefully in his sleep early on Saturday morning at his home.
Born in Goldsboro on April 7, 1961, Marky was the son of Evelyn Gurley Ezzell and the late Julian M. Ezzell. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, Eric Clifford Ezzell, in 1962.
From the very beginning of his life, Marky was surrounded by the love and devotion of his family. Born autistic, he grew to be a quiet, sincere, and gentle soul whose sweetness touched the lives of everyone who knew him. As a child, he found joy in dancing in his room to the music of one of his favorite groups, KC and the Sunshine Band.
Marky had attended, since he was 18 years old, the special programs of Adapt and Wayne Opportunity Center in Goldsboro. The opportunity to participate in these groups always brought joy to his life. Through the years, these programs became a place where he was not only nurtured but also celebrated for exactly who he was. The friendships he built, the staff who cared for him, and the daily routines he enjoyed gave him a sense of belonging and purpose outside of his home. To Marky, these centers were more than just programs-they were communities where he could laugh, grow, and feel accepted. His family will be forever grateful for the love and kindness shown to him there, as they played such an important role in enriching the quality of his life.
Marky found happiness in the simple pleasures-watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, and enjoying meals out with his family. His greatest joy, however, was the love and care he received from those dearest to him. His family delighted in spoiling him, and he embraced the life of being treated like a king. His impact on their hearts was immeasurable, and the memories of his gentle spirit will forever be cherished.
Marky's life was a reflection of a mother's love. His mother, Evelyn, dedicated her life to ensuring his days were filled with comfort, dignity, and joy. Their bond was unlike any other-a sacred relationship built on patience, tenderness, and unconditional love. Evelyn's devotion to her son was steadfast, and she cared for him faithfully until his final breath. To Marky, she was not only his mother but also his protector, his advocate, and his best friend. To Evelyn, he was God's special gift, and she cherished the blessing of being his mother every single day.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a service at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel with Pastor Barry Teague officiating. Entombment will be in Wayne Memorial Park.
Marky is survived by his devoted mother and caregiver, Evelyn Gurley Ezzell; his sisters, Julie Suggs and husband, Edd, and Kelly Sue Barton and husband, Vernon; nieces and nephews, Robbie Morawski and fiancée, Lynel, Crystal Williford and husband, Scott, Brittney Rogers, Megan Cherry and husband, Dexter, Heather Wilson and husband, Austin, and Joshua Barton and fiancée, Samantha; as well as nine great-nieces and nephews who adored him.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Marky's memory to the Wayne Opportunity Center, PO Box 1007,
