William Fogerty III Obituary William Henry "Bill" Fogerty III, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2023, after a long and valiant battle with cancer.
Bill was born February 1, 1950, in Olean, New York, the second child of William Henry Fogerty, Jr. and Mary Jane (Shuckerow) Fogerty. He was raised along with his six siblings in Bloomfield, Connecticut and graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1968. He attended Boston College for two years, during which time he met his future wife, Susan. He then volunteered for the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and became a radio operator aboard the aircraft carrier USS Independence. He was always proud to have served his country.
In 1975, Bill and Susan were married. He returned to college at Northeastern University, graduating magna cum laude in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice. He then began his career as a special agent with the Federal Aviation Administration. He retired in 2008 as a lead investigator who was deeply respected and admired by his team.
Bill and Susan had four children, and their family vacations to historical sites and baseball parks were some of his favorite memories. He was a lifelong fan of all Boston sports teams and a BC football season ticket holder for 30 years. Byfielders have seen him all over the area jogging or walking with his beloved dog, Boots. He was known to everyone who met him for his incredible intellect. Most of all, he loved and cherished his role as a husband, father, and grandfather.
Bill is survived by his wife of 48 years, Susan (Schissel) Fogerty; son John Fogerty; daughter Mary Fogerty-Johnson (Devin Johnson); daughter Laura Fogerty (Gregory Jarbeau); son William Henry Fogerty IV (Alexis); two sisters, Kathleen Fogerty (Terry Burke) and Patricia Clisby (Gary Clisby); four brothers, Sean Fogerty (Darlene), Dennis Fogerty, Neal Fogerty (Gail); and James Patrick Fogerty; four grandchildren, Erin Fogerty and Evangeline, Violet, and Nicholas Johnson; an uncle and aunt, Michael and Marilyn Shuckerow; and numerous sisters and brothers in law, nephews, nieces, and cousins. He was predeceased by his father and mother.
The Fogerty family would like to thank Dr. Suzanne George and Dr. Matthew Hemming at Dana-Farber for their years of care and support, and the staff at Lawrence General Hospital and High Pointe House for every kindness. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to support clinical research at the sarcoma center of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA, 02284.
