William Terry Gaskill, 59, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away at his home on Wednesday, May 8, 2024.
A memorial service to honor Terry’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 21st at Munden Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor Manley Rose Jr. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. For those unable to attend, the service can be viewed through his obituary page on Munden Funeral Home’s website. The service will remain on the Funeral Home website for 90 days.
Terry was born on May 28, 1964, in Sea Level, North Carolina, to the late William and Lilly Gaskill. He started his career as a commercial fisherman in his early years and later dedicated many years to working with the NC Ferry Division until his planned retirement in 2025.
Terry attended United Pentecostal Church in Newport. He will be remembered as a loving husband of 23 years to his wife June, a caring father and proud "Papa" to his grandchildren.
Terry had a passion for racing and found joy in NASCAR events. He even participated in the Richard Petty Driving Experience 3 times and experienced the thrill of driving in a NASCAR race car at speeds of up to 165 mph at the true NASCAR Experience in Charlotte Motor Speedway. His enthusiasm for racing extended to go-karts as well. Golfing was another pastime that Terry enjoyed throughout his life.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his step-son, Louis “Scooter” Wallace of Newport; stepdaughter, Stephanie Tyson (William) of Newport; sisters, Gina Blackwood (Sam) of Morehead City, Jordan Yeomans (Angel) of Lincolnton, NC; niece, Kaili Leggatt; grandchildren, Trey Tyson, Landen Jack Tyson, and Waylon Wallace; and life long friend, Mark Davis of Harkers Island.
In addition to his parents, Terry was preceded in death by his beloved wife, June Sammons Gaskill who passed away in 2020, and their precious dog, Gizmo.
