William Giantonio Obituary

Published by Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Newington Memorial on Mar. 10, 2018.
William Arthur Giantonio (Bill), 87, of Newington, passed peacefully on Saturday, March 10, at home with his wife, Loretta by his side. He struggled with frontal lobe dementia for 8 years. After retiring in 2000 as the head of Patent Illustrations at United Technologies, he continued to consult in his area of work for 10 years. A recognized authority in his field; his hand and CAD generated drawings on file at the US Patent Office will be referenced far into the future. He loved his work of 48 years; and spoke often of having found a career he enjoyed each day. A loved family man, helpful neighbor, and artist – he would never pass a motorist in need of engine repair. Bill loved the beach, and looked forward to his regular visits to NYC. An accomplished cook, a love he embraced in his 20s as a chef in the officer's mess of a US Air Force Reserve unit. He continued to perfect dishes into his 70s; sauce, pizza, candied apple tart and other favorites will be enjoyed for years to come. Bill, born, February 18, 1931 in New Britain; son of Guido Giantonio and Lena (Palumbo) Giantonio; a student of the New Britain School System and Hartford Institute of Technology, pre-deceases his wife of 56 years, Loretta (Cox) Giantonio of Newington; son, Kenneth Giantonio and daughter-in-law, Hillary (Leng) Giantonio of Farmington; daughter, Nicole Giantonio of Aspen, CO and New York, NY and her husband, James Horowitz. Grand-daughter, Maddelena Giantonio of Farmington; brother, Guido Giantonio of Newington and Rocky Hill; sister, Eleanor Bartlett of Wethersfield; as well as an extended family of in-laws, nephews, nieces and their children. The family extends its sincere gratitude and heartfelt thanks to Danuta, Bill's most recent home care advisor; her associate Ela; and family friend and care supporter, James Stewart; as well as their Newington neighbors for their unwavering support and kindness. Funeral services for Bill will begin on Friday morning, March 16, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. at Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington to Church of the Holy Spirit where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Burial and Committal Services will follow in West Meadow Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Bill's family on Thursday evening, March 15, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Newington Memorial. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations to Bill's chosen charity, the Special Olympics, (Checks payable to SOCT), 266 State Street, Suite 1, Hamden, CT 06517. Bill prepared my patent illustrations when I wrote applications for Pratt & Whitney between 2002-2009. He was a perfectionist and did amazing work. He will certainly be missed. -Colin L. Cini

Dear Lola and Family, we were so sorry when we learned of the passing of your wonderful husband. We met Bill at Gene's funeral and enjoyed great conversation despite dementia. We instantly knew why you chose him as your husband. If we can be of service let us know and we will pray for you all. Loving the memories and hoping to meet again soon. Bev (cox) and Frank Wade.
