William Elwayne Gill, aged 80, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2025 in Greenville, Texas. He was born on February 16, 1945 to J C Gill and Eula Alyne (Hartley) Gill. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Wolfe City, Texas, with Rev. Clay Henslee officiating.
William attended high school in Greenville, Texas and went on to attend classes at East Texas State University in Commerce. He proudly served his country in the US Army from 1966 to 1968. He married the love of his life, Mary Evelyn Ray, on November 23, 1968 in Wolfe City and they enjoyed many happy years together until her death in 1998. William was a faithful member of his church, where he served as a deacon and worked in the children’s ministry.
William was employed with Kelley Moore Paint and worked there until his retirement. His work ethic and professionalism made him a model employee and an example to others. In his spare time, he enjoyed going on long walks and watching movies.
Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Christopher Lyle Gill and Nathan Wade Gill; brother, Jimmy Gill; and granddaughter, Emily Hope Gill.
William is preceded in death by his father, J C Gill and mother, Alyne Gill; and his wife, Mary Evelyn Gill.
