William J. Good

William J. Good III (74) of South Boston, Massachusetts passed away on September 21 with his wife of 39 years, Jane, by his side. William, known as Bill or Billy, was born to Mary Ann and William Junior, March 12 1949, in Holyoke Massachusetts. He lived his childhood in Brockton, MA and was a long time fan of the City of Champions. After graduating from Boston State, and before getting MBA from Norwich University, he planted roots in Boston where he was a long time civil servant. Bill lived his life as if he was indebted to the world and particularly his city. From Boston Community Schools, to the Boston Transportation Department, to the Boston Police Department, and finally retiring the Commissioner of the Inspectional Services Department.
Along the way he lived a parallel life. Bill was running laps on the track around a rugby practice one day when he was asked if he wanted to join. One thing led to another and a lifelong love was born. He served as president of the Boston Rugby Club and is inducted to their Hall of Fame. He organized several international tours and more than enough Old Men of the Mountain tournaments. By the end, he was a proud member, honorary or full fledged, of 12+ rugby teams, including his beloved Perennials in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He toiled endlessly to develop MYRO (Massachusetts Youth Rugby Organization) in an effort to put Rugby in schools, resulting in the recognition of rugby as a varsity sport by the MIAA. He coached various collegiate rugby clubs in the Boston area, most recently coaching the men's club at Curry College. The roots he planted will grow fruit for many years.
Above all he was an extraordinary family man. In addition to his wife Jane he is survived by his two beloved children, Elizabeth (and her husband Tucker) and Will (and his partner Vita.) He is predeceased by his brother Kevin. His extended network of nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws were cherished by him.
Any and all who wish to pay their respects are welcome to his wake at Casper Funeral Home on Thursday September 28th 2023, from 3 PM to 7 PM.
