William R. "Bill" Good age 79, died on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at his home surrounded by his adoring family. Bill was born on January 7, 1946, to the late Elden A. and Mary Elizabeth (Scott) Good in Cincinnati, Ohio.
He graduated from Cincinnati Withrow High School, University of Cincinnati, and the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. While attending the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science, he met the love of his life, Becky (the only woman in their class). Bill and Becky shared a walkie-talkie on a tour of Batesville Casket Company. They were meant to be together from that day forward. They were engaged after 3 months and married after 6 months on November 4, 1967, in Columbus, Ohio. Bill and Becky both grew up in funeral home families. Bill's father, Elden, established Elden A. Good Funeral Home in Hyde Park, Cincinnati, Ohio in the mid-1960's. Becky is a 3rd generation funeral director and embalmer and worked with Southwick Funeral Chapel, which was founded by her grandfather, Raymond L. Southwick, in 1923. Bill and Becky moved to Columbus in 1967 to begin their life together running Southwick-Good & Fortkamp Funeral Chapel, Inc.
Bill was a member of the National Funeral Directors Assoc., Ohio Funeral Directors Assoc., and Central Ohio Funeral Director Assoc. where he served on several committees. He served as Vice President of Phi Sigma Eta National Mortuary Fraternity. Former long-time member of Overbrook Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon and Ruling Elder. He is a Past President of the North Columbus Civitan Club and was a committee member and regular emcee for the Park of Roses Sunday Concert Series. Bill served on the Board of Advisors for Kinder Key of Columbus Children's Hospital. He was a former member of the University Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Valley of Columbus, Aladdin Temple Shrine, Northern Shrine Club and served as Vice President of Past Master Councilor E.T. Carson Chapter DeMolay (Cincinnati, Ohio).
Bill loved being at their condo at Indian Lake. Over the years Bill and Becky developed many wonderful friendships there. He took pride in his boat and enjoyed going to the Moose on Monday nights with friends. Bill's personality was undeniably distinct. He was never shy to voice his opinion. He was witty, loved to tell jokes and banter. He was kind, generous, compassionate, empathic and loving.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Becky; daughters, Barbara (Jonathan) Fortkamp and Elizabeth "Beth" Pritchard (fiancé, John Raphael); grandchildren, Scott (Carly) Pritchard, Jr., William Fortkamp, Sydney (Brandon Kays) Pritchard, and Gabriella Fortkamp; brother, Donald (Beverly) Good; extended family; and many dear friends.
Friends may call Monday, February 17th from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Egan-Ryan Northwest, 4661 Kenny Rd., Columbus, Ohio 43220 where funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 18th Deacon Chis Campbell, officiating. Internment Union Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions, if desired, may be made to Bishop Watterson High School's St. Pius X Chapel or Indian Lake Community Church
