William "Bill" C. Gray was a long-time resident of Indianapolis. Born in Tompkinsville, Kentucky, he dedicated his life to his family, community, and many passions-always embodying pride, patience, and unwavering loyalty.
Bill and his late wife, Frances, moved their family to Franklin Township over 50 years ago, raising their children in Wanamaker. Bill's greatest pride was being a father, and he cherished every moment with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His family included his son Todd (Lana), son Adam, and daughter Cheryl (Patrick) Flick, along with six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Following Frances' passing, Bill was fortunate to find love again with Charmon Coe, bringing him joy and companionship over the last twelve years. Bill was a devoted brother and was proud of his sister Wanda Dietrich and his brother Jim, who were important parts of his life.
In 1994, Bill, along with brother Jim, founded Circle City Fire Protection, Inc.-a company they passionately operated until their retirement in 2012. Known for his strong work ethic, craftsmanship, and integrity. His kindness, humor, and quick wit characterized him, and even in his final days, he maintained his perpetual sense of humor, often sharing a joke or witty remark that kept everyone smiling.
Before all of this, Bill answered the call to serve his country as a Military Police officer in the U.S. Army, completing a tour of duty in Vietnam in 1966. His service was a source of pride, and he carried those values of loyalty and resilience throughout his life.
