William “Bill” Dale Green, age 69, of Adel, Iowa, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2025, in Adel, surrounded by his loving family.
Bill was born on April 27, 1956, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Larry Green and Kaye (McDaniel) Cave, and was lovingly raised by his mother and stepfather, Don Cave.
He graduated from Dexfield High School in 1974, where he was a proud member of the Dexfield Blue Devils football team that went undefeated for 20 games and claimed the 1973 Class A Football Championship. Among his many athletic achievements, one of Bill’s proudest moments was holding the Iowa High Jump record at 6'4" for years — a remarkable accomplishment that reflected his determination and skill.
After high school, Bill attended Tarkio College and later Northwest Missouri State University, where he studied education. Over the years, his career path included selling insurance and working in a variety of logistical roles, where his strong work ethic and easygoing nature earned him the respect of coworkers and clients alike.
Bill’s lifelong love of sports and kids led him to spend many years coaching Little League baseball, football, basketball, and soccer. He played a big role in developing youth sports opportunities in Adel and loved making the experience special for every child — even organizing personalized jerseys with their last names, a gesture that delighted countless young athletes.
Known for his kindness and easygoing nature, Bill was always willing to lend a helping hand — whether it was helping someone cross the street, holding a door, or stopping for a friendly conversation. He also enjoyed fishing, a good game of golf and the company of friends both on and off the course.
Bill also had a deep love for music. Whether at home, in the car, or out and about, there was no wrong place to sing and “rock out” — especially to two of his favorite bands, Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) and Lynyrd Skynyrd. His laughter, energy, and love of life were contagious and unforgettable.
Bill is survived by his fiancée, Cindy Fox; his sons Jayme (Megan) Green of Topeka, KS, Benjamin Green of Bedford, IA, and Trent Green of Adel, IA; and his honorary sons Travis (Brittney) Fox of North Liberty, IA, and Taylor (Allison) Fox of Ankeny, IA.
He was a proud grandfather to Dalton, Rhys, Jaxson, Jace, Jerret, Boston, Cameron, Olivia, Nora, Raegan, and Carter, who brought him endless joy. He is also survived by his sister Donola Saxton, half-brother Rusty Green, and his beloved cat, Sandy.
Bill was preceded in death by his sister, Pamela Aldrich.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 South 14th Street, Adel, Iowa. A reception will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
