William Greene

Rev. Dr. William Greene was born September 13, 1933, in Rowland, North Carolina to Joe and Margaret Greene.
He entered the United States Air Force on March 19, 1953 and honorably served until his retirement on December 4, 1984 at Elmendorf AFB, Alaska. He served in Korea, Japan, Turkey, England and travelled throughout Europe and Israel.
While in the Air Force he achieved the rank of Chief Master Sergeant (E-(9).
Pastor Greene was ordained as a minister in 1980. He was a life-long learner, who earned his A.A. degree in Social Sciences in 1980 from the University of Alaska, Anchorage and the Alaska Bible College; a B.A degree in Value and Religion in 1983 from Alaska Pacific University.
He received his Honorary Doctor of Divinity in 1997 from Arkansas Baptist College,
Little Rock, Arkansas.
Pastor Greene served with many organizations including the Anchorage Prison Ministries, as a Chaplain at Cook Inlet Pretrial, the President of NAACP Anchorage, a member of the Anchorage Community Police Relations Task Force, and the Task Force chair.
As a soldier for civil rights, he received many awards acknowledging his commitment to the Anchorage Community.
To know Pastor Greene was to understand his love for the Lord and his desire to live a Christ centered life.
Any time spent in Pastor Greene's presence meant you would hear testimony of God's continuous faithfulness over his life. Pastor Greene was a gentle spirit. He was known as a hardworking and generous colleague with an infectious smile.
One of Pastor Greene's favorite scriptures was Psalm 23.
A favorite song of his was "May the work I've done speak for me".
Pastor Greene was called home on January 9, 2025. He is predeceased in death by his beloved wife Wilhemenia Greene, whom he was married to for 69 years. His brothers Preston, Ellis,Joe and twin sisters Annie and Lucille.
He leaves to cherish his memory their beloved daughter, Wanda V. Greene,a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
